As director of a student music-making body, Bach composed or re-wrote many violin and keyboard concertos for the group, which may also have performed earlier works such as the Brandenburg Concertos. Bach also began taking a serious interest in the publication of his works.
In the case of Johann Sebastian Bach, though, this accolade has the ring of truth. Bach (1685–1750) is one of the most influential composers in Western music history, whose mastery of harmony, counterpoint, and form shaped the course of classical music.
Bach then improvised a six-voice fugue on another theme, which developed into A Musical Offering. Equally impressive was Contrapunctus, a final set of fugues Bach never finished, and which today is known as The Art of Fugue. A final travesty likely hastened Bach’s death.
